Karoline Leavitt, a former press aide to former President Trump and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), this week announced that she’s running for a seat in the House of Representatives.
The story: Leavitt, 23, on Tuesday announced a campaign to run for Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH)’s House seat in New Hampshire’s 1st District. She plans to run against President Joe Biden and “radical” Democrats’ policies.
“Everywhere you look, conservatives, myself included, are being censored and silenced,” Leavitt says in the announcement video that showed a short clip of a report that Twitter suspended her account.
The company temporarily suspended her from the platform earlier this year in May and later claimed that it took action against Leavitt’s account in “error.”
“And our freedoms to speak freely, think independently, bear arms, go to church, and operate our own businesses are being infringed by radical Democrats … We take our freedoms very seriously, and we need a bold, energetic fighter to serve as a firewall between we the people and those who want to destroy our way of life,” she continues.
The video features multiple photos of Leavitt standing alongside former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary under the Trump administration.
“I proudly helped advance President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda, fight for the forgotten men and women of this country and combat the biased fake news media that attacked us every single day,” Leavitt said.
Background: The New Hampshire native worked as an assistant press secretary in the Trump White House and most recently served as Stefanik’s communications director. She left that post after the congresswoman was elected to House GOP leadership to replace Rep. Liz Cheney who was ousted from the position by her Republican colleagues.
What she’s saying: Leavitt, who would turn 25 when she takes office if she wins the election, told the New York Post that her age is “not the problem.”
The problem is the fact that we have people in Washington, DC, who have been serving twice as long, maybe three times as long, as I have been alive. If we want real change in our system, we should elect young leaders to reinvigorate our base,” she said.
Leavitt also pointed to several policies that she opposes.
“People here, more than any state in the union, value our freedom and our liberty, and we have a federal delegation that is made up of Democrats right now who are voting in favor of policies that are infringing on our freedoms, whether it’s gun control measures, whether it’s higher taxes, whether it’s more regulations on our businesses.”
In an interview with “Fox & Friends,” Leavitt accuses Big Tech and the mainstream media of brainwashing young people.
“My generation is absolutely brainwashed by Big Tech, by the mainstream media, by Hollywood, by cancel culture, and by higher education. Our taxpayer–funded teachers are indoctrinating our students – not educating them,” she said.
