Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis is an outspoken opponent of vaccine mandates.
Advocating for those whose jobs are in jeopardy due to the mandates, the Governor announced a plan to offer financial incentives to police officers to relocate to the Sunshine State.
In an interview with Fox News, DeSantis said he called the Florida Legislature into a special session last week to address the vaccine mandate issue.
“In Florida, not only are we going to want to protect the law enforcement and all the jobs, we’re actually actively working to recruit out-of-state law enforcement because we do have needs in our police and our sheriff’s departments,” said DeSantis.
Speaking directly to police officers across the country, DeSantis continued, “If you’re not being treated well, we’ll treat you better here. You can fill important needs for us and will compensate you as a result.”
Police unions in many major cities are resisting vaccine mandates. The Daily Mail reports that Seattle’s police force is set to lose about 40% of their force (approximately 400 officers) due to the vaccine mandate.
Governor Desantis’ recent statement on incentives is not new. The Epoch Times reports that in August, at an event in Indianapolis, Indiana, DeSantis announced a plan to petition Florida State Legislatures for $5 million to help recruit for law enforcement agencies.
The article noted that DeSantis shared three proposals he planned to present to attract the best possible candidates to fill law enforcement positions.
This week, the Governor made good on his promise.
DeSantis has also spoken up for healthcare workers. Speaking of vaccine mandates in the healthcare industry, DeSantis stated: “It’s not something I support. Here’s the problem that I think you’re going to run into. Hospitals are having a tough time retaining staff.”
At a recent event on the east coast of Florida, DeSantis made an enticing offer: “We are 100% excited about saying anyone that’s being mistreated, if the morale is low, if you can’t take that environment – and we have openings here – you are going to get an environment where people are going to support you.”
