Vice President Kamala Harris fails to improve favorability ratings after the first showing of YouTube’s new series, “Get Curious.”
Democratic leaders are concerned that favorability ratings are approaching record lows for Nancy Pelosi, President Biden, and Vice President Harris. To stem the tide, Vice President Harris’ office recently hired a “Crisis Control” director, a move that came under fire during a September 30th airing of the show, “Outnumbered.”
A headline in the Citizens Journal read: “Tactical Missteps Trigger Surging Dislike Of Kamala Harris.” Missteps include blunt statements, her handling of the border crisis, offending diplomatic allies such as the Prime Minister of India, and awkward if not inappropriate laughing when questioned on serious topics.
RealClearPolitics reports, “her unfavorable rating of 46% means she has her work cut out for her if her intention is to succeed Biden in 2024 or 2028. Harris may be Biden’s heir apparent, but her unfavorable ratings, even among Biden supporters, are high for a politician hoping to move from Number One Observatory Circle to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”
Last week’s participation in the YouTube series “Get Curious” was an opportunity to change perception and improve her public image. But the attempt to appear more genuine failed on several fronts as her highly animated interaction with children appeared unnatural. Her performance, which included exaggerated movements and facial expressions, has been widely panned on social media.
Adding to Vice President Harris missing the mark is that children participants, in what was presented as a classroom setting, were paid, actors. Trevor Bernardino, age 13, was hired through his agent in Los Angeles. His father, Carlo, reports that “all five” children who participated in the event with Vice President Harris “are actors.”
“He’s a child actor — he’s been trying to do this type of thing for a while,” Mr. Bernardino said of his son. The father’s reveal that the children were actors has not set well with many viewers.
Former President Trump has made fake news a household phrase. Inaccurate news reports, misrepresented COVID-19 hospitalization numbers, and President Biden’s press room recently shown to be a prop correlate with falling poll numbers. The staging of child actors in what was presented as an impromptu gathering adds fuel to the fire.
Interest in the show has been remarkably low. View-count remains under 170,000, despite the bump in views following Monday’s report of child actors. Of those who have viewed the show, negative reviews outpace positive comments by about two to one. Reviews of the series trailer show negative comments outpace positive comments by almost three to one.
Tucker Carlson referred to Vice President Harris’ part in the YouTube program as “phony” saying, “She leaves you pining for the authentic maternal warmth of Hillary Clinton.”
