In yet another story of an unusual death in a young healthy notable, Tennessee medical officials have determined that Shonka Dukureh, 44, died of “natural causes,” attributing the death to cardiovascular disease.”
The Tennessee chief medical examiner confirmed the cause of death for the singer and actress to Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that Dukureh died on July 21. One of her two children found her body in the bedroom of her apartment. Police report there were no signs of foul play.
Dukureh was best known for her role as Big Mama Thornton in the 2022 film “Elvis.”
Fox News reported that “Dukureh also shared the stage at Coachella this year with rapper Doja Cat.”
Dukureh lived in Nashville, about 200 miles from Elvis’ Graceland. She recently shared on Instagram how proud she was for the opportunity to sing Presley’s popular song “Hound Dog.”
“Gratefulness is where I live cuz my granny, gmama, momma, family modeled and instilled it in me,” Dukureh wrote.
“It isn’t a posture of less than or crumbs scraping, but one that acknowledges good things aren’t a guarantee and when we encounter them thankfulness, gratefulness is the least we can express.”
