House Select Committee members hoping to eviscerate former President Donald Trump Thursday by playing Ivanka Trump video testimony were disappointed.
“Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results,” the former president said, according to a New York Post report. “She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General.”
Mr. Trump’s remarks were reportedly posted hours after Representative Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., played a brief excerpt from Ms. Trump’s testimony for lawmakers and the public audience viewing the hearing. Cheney is the committee’s vice chair and one of two members of the Republican Party on the committee. She and Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger were appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., over the objections of Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“Many of President Trump’s White House staff also recognized that the evidence did not support the claims President Trump was making,” Cheney said. “This is the president’s daughter, commenting on Bill Barr’s statement that the [Justice] Department found no fraud sufficient to overturn the election.”
The video clip selected by the largely Democrat committee showed interviewers asking Trump’s daughter how Barr’s statement affected her perspective about the election.
“It affected my perspective,” Ivanka Trump responded. “I respect Attorney General Barr, so I accept what he was saying.”
Political observers expect that other slices of the interview with the 45th president’s daughter will be strategically inserted into future public committee hearings.
Trump blasted what he considered a one-sided narrative pushed by political opponents during their publicized hearings.
“So the Unselect Committee of political HACKS refuses to play any of the many positive witnesses and statements, refuses to talk of the Election Fraud and Irregularities that took place on a massive scale, and decided to use a documentary maker from Fake News ABC to spin only negative footage,” Trump fumed, adding, “Our Country is in such trouble!”
Attorney generals often faced furious interactions with Trump. William Barr, who replaced former staunch Trump ally Jeff Sessions, rose to the top spot on Trump’s “s**t list” when he declared in December 2020 the election was not rigged. Hearing his beloved daughter be swayed by Barr’s opinion must not have sat well with Trump.
“Bill Barr was a weak and frightened Attorney General who was always being ‘played’ and threatened by the Democrats and was scared stiff of being Impeached,” he exclaimed in a Truth post. “How do you not get impeached? Do nothing, or say nothing, especially about the obviously RIGGED & STOLEN Election or, to put it another way, THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!”
“The Democrats hit pay dirt with Barr,” continued Trump, “he was stupid, ridiculously said there was no problem with the Election, & they left him alone.”
