In what the Trump legal team will likely refer to as ongoing harassment and intimidation from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Fox News announced that in a surprise move, the DOJ issued more than two dozen subpoenas to associates of former President Donald Trump.
In addition to issuing 30 subpoenas, the DOJ seized cell phones from two Trump advisers.
The latest moves are reportedly part of an investigation to discredit Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was manipulated by Big Tech, the FBI and the Democratic Party. Fox News notes the DOJ is ratcheting up pressure against Trump.
Despite DOJ pressure, recent revelations such as Facebook’s recent disclosure that the FBI exerted pressure to stifle stories unfavorable to the DNC, the arrest and conviction of Democratic officials found guilty of election fraud, the reversal of several mail-in ballot laws and documentaries such as “2000 Mules” have kept the election integrity issue front and center in much of the country. Efforts to decertify the 2020 election are active in at least six states.
Targets of the latest DOJ subpoenas include Timothy Parlatore, a Trump attorney, and former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik. The police commissioner confirmed he received a subpoena on Tuesday and must appear before a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Sept. 23.
The Department of Justice declined to explain what justified the sudden flurry of subpoenas.
CNN suggested that the January 6 Committee’s probe discovered “documents” that reportedly show Electoral College certifications from the 2020 election declared Republicans won the election and electors voted for Donald Trump and Mike Pence when in fact Democrats had won and voted for President Biden and Vice President Harris, according to a report by Fox News.
“We’ve received those referrals. Our prosecutors are looking at those, and I can’t say anything more on ongoing investigations,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco told CNN.
The DOJ and January 6 Committee have quickly made charges but failed to release credible evidence. Fox noted: “The details of the DOJ investigation remain unknown, with Monaco only adding that the DOJ was ‘going to follow the facts and the law, wherever they lead, to address the conduct of any kind and at any level that is part of an assault on our democracy.'”
Former presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said of Trump and his associates: “No one is above the law.”
Trump’s legal team alleges the DOJ is corrupt, shows political bias and vows to press ahead.
