In a shocking but not surprising move, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) released a statement condemning America and NATO for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Saturday.
Claiming the United States and NATO triggered the Russian invasion by repeated acts of “imperialist expansion,” the DSA called for “the US to withdraw from NATO and end the imperialist expansionism that set the stage for this conflict.”
The DSA statement added: “While the failures of neoliberal order are clear to everyone, the ruling class is trying to build a new world, through a dystopic transition grounded in militarism, imperialism, and war. Socialists have a duty to build an alternative.”
Injecting woke ideology into their assessment of the war on civilians in Ukraine, the DSA statement argued that “much of the next ten years are coming into view through this attack” and concluded their statement with, “no war but class war.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) are among the elected leaders of the DSA group.
The DSA statement is receiving significant pushback.
The New York Post noted that Military vet and former Staten Island Democratic Congressman, Max Rose, tweeted:
“I am deeply concerned with DSA’s statement calling on the US to unilaterally leave NATO in the midst of a level of Russian Aggression on the European Continent that we have not seen since World War 2.”
“Now is the time to double down on our alliances, particularly NATO, to send economic and military aid to Ukraine, and to comprehensively punish Russia with crippling and unprecedented sanctions.”
The DSA closed its statement with demands and imperatives government leaders in Russia and America are bound to ignore.
“We stand in solidarity with…[those] around the world who are calling for a diplomatic resolution. There is no solution through war or further intervention.”
“This crisis requires an immediate international antiwar response demanding de-escalation, international cooperation, and opposition to unilateral coercive measures, militarization, and other forms of economic and military brinkmanship that will only exacerbate the human toll of this conflict.”
