Bruno Lozano, the Democratic mayor of Del Rio, Texas, spoke out on Twitter asking the Biden Administration to address the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the United States-Mexico border into the city.
In detail: Despite being a Democrat, Lozano was vocal on Saturday about his criticism of the Biden Administration for their handling of the border crisis, as thousands of migrants continue to illegally cross the border into Del Rio.
The Biden Administration acted on Sunday by closing the section of the border where the migrants, many of them Haitian, had been crossing continually for three weeks.
The United States also began initiating flights to take the migrants back to their home countries.
Lozano’s comments: In reply to a tweet from Vice President Kamala Harris, which included a video of her at a college football game over the weekend, Lozano wrote, “We need you to visit Del Rio, Texas.”
In another post, Lozano tweeted, “The VP is able to visit the fun events across the country, while American communities continue to grapple with failed immigration reform. Where is the visit to Del Rio, TX?”
Then Lozano called out President Joe Biden directly, writing: “The US is failing to protect its borders. Why aren’t you here? @POTUS.”
In yet another post, Lozano indicated that he and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) had developed a plan.
“Where is your plan to protect American communities at the southern border?” he asked. “I spoke to Governor Abbott today. We have developed a temporary plan, we’d like to see yours. @GovAbbott.”
Worth noting: Texas Congressman August Pfluger (R) visited Del Rio and gave a detailed account of what he witnessed in a Twitter thread.
“I spent the day in Del Rio, TX with local and state leaders and law enforcement—what I heard, and what I saw, was devastating,” Pfluger wrote. “There were nearly 15,000 migrants gathered at the port of entry with hundreds more gathering every hour—up from 12,000 just the day before.”
“Most were military aged males between the ages of 18-35,” he continued. “The majority of migrants were Haitian, but I talked to migrants from 6-7 countries including Cuba, Venezuela, Honduras, and more.”
Pfluger also placed the blame on the Biden Administration, questioning why they were not doing more to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
