On Monday, Democrat Pennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle introduced a bill that would require the future speaker of the house to be a member of congress, Newsmax reported.
“The speaker of the U.S. House is second in the United States presidential line of succession. That Donald Trump’s name would even be tossed around as a potential speaker in the people’s house, should serve as an alarm bell that our current requirements need to be amended in the name of protecting our nation and our democracy,” the representative said of the bill that says a Speaker must be an elected member of the House, known as the MEMBERS Act.
“This legislation would establish that mandate in very clear and direct language, and it would serve as a check against those who would seek to undermine and derogate the authority and responsibilities of the speaker’s office,” he said.
The legislation is, in part, a response to a fundraising campaign by Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz that said ”how great it will feel when … we make our next Speaker of the House Donald J. Trump.”
Radio host Wayne Allen Root suggested Trump campaigning for a spot in the House of Representatives before taking on the challenge of winning back the White House in 2024 during an interview the two had in June, The Daily Mail reported.
“Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I’m hoping you’ll run in 2024, but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats,” the host said.
“Then you become the speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden,” he said. “You’ll wipe him out for this last two years.”
“That’s so interesting,” the 45th President of the United States said. “You know, it’s very interesting.”
