When Alexandra Hunt, 29, announced her congressional candidacy, a critic suggested creating an OnlyFans page for money after her election loss.
“Who says I have to lose an election to start an OnlyFans?” asked the Pennsylvania candidate in her page banner. “There’s no shame in the OnlyFans game.”
It echoes the caption on a Wednesday Twitter post responding to a critic.
OnlyFans is best known as a forum where people commercialize their appearance by sharing sexually explicit subscription-based content with paying fans. Ms. Hunt’s site stands from other pages like a driver obeying an interstate highway speed limit. Even though she admits prior experience in adult entertainment, her page does not contain sexually suggestive material. It seems to function as another means of attracting attention, maybe even some campaign funding.
“I’ve been a stripper; I’m a sexual assault survivor; And, I’ve had an abortion,” explained Hunt. “This ad is my story — but also the story of so many others.” Her caption appears on a Twitter post above a video clip. “Never again will they be able to force us to live in the shadows, in shame for our lived experiences.”
The Rochester, N.Y., native graduated from the University of Richmond in 2014 before moving to Philadelphia. She received her master’s degrees from Drexel and Temple Universities.
Hunt is facing off against Austin Rodill and Michael Cogbill in the May 17 Democratic Party primary to determine who will be their candidate for the state’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Right now I’m being accused of setting back women decades for being on OnlyFans as a congressional candidate,” Hunt said in a post to the site. “If you disagree, I could really used your support.”
“Thanks for being a part of this.”
The congressional candidate described being fired from her job as a local soccer coach after her employer discovered she used to be a stripper. She said that situation helped inspire her to work toward ending the “age-old stigma and bigotry” associated with the profession.
A Saturday email requesting comment from Hunt was not immediately returned.
