For the Republican Party, the infamous Hunter Biden “Laptop from Hell” is the “gift that keeps on giving.” In its latest offering, records associated with the famed laptop show the extraordinary measures at least one FBI agent took to suppress a probe or media attention.
Though the FBI has denied allegations of political bias and impropriety, a “new report from the author of a best-selling book” about the laptop says otherwise, according to The Daily Wire.
The latest boost in laptop coverage and discussion followed Timothy Thibault’s recent unexpected and inglorious exit from the bureau. His exit followed what many viewed as a poorly considered and botched raid on former President Donald Trump’s home, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida — an action he helped to coordinate.
Thibault is facing allegations of fostering overt political bias in the bureau, which prompted a review of comments made by former Hunter Biden business partner-turned-whistleblower Tony Bobulinski.
In October 2020, just weeks before the election, Bobulinski charged that the Biden family, including now-President Joe Biden, was involved in corruption. The story was profiled in the New York Post and later amplified by Post Columnist Miranda Devine in the book “Laptop from Hell.”
On Monday, Devine wrote in a column that Bobulinski’s charges merit serious review, complaining that the “evidence [Bobulinski produced] appears to have fallen into the same black hole at the FBI as Hunter’s laptop, never to be seen again.”
The laptop in question was originally said to be a fake or the product of “Russian disinformation” but later was verified to be authentic. It is now believed that Hunter Biden abandoned the laptop at a Wilmington, Delaware, computer repair shop and has been held by the FBI since late 2019.
Efforts to suppress the data on the laptop ultimately failed. Copies of the hard drive were entered into the Congressional Record by Sen. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), though the move was strenuously resisted by Sen. Jerry Nadler (D-NY).
According to the Daily Wire, files on the computer contain photos, videos, emails and text messages showing Hunter Biden to be a “drug-addled, venal degenerate.” The data also “raises troubling questions about President Joe Biden’s own role in his son’s corrupt dealings.”
According to Devine, Thibault was the “Washington Field Office’s point man appointed to manage Bobulinski.” Reportedly, Thibault, on behalf of the FBI, suppressed damning information Bobulinski shared with bureau agents.
Devine notes that on October 23, 2020, Bobulinski spoke with the FBI for more than five hours, revealing to agents that then-presidential candidate Joe Biden was involved in his son’s corrupt international business deals. It was at that meeting that Bobulinski identified Joe Biden as “the Big Guy” Hunter Biden referred to in an email, noting he was due 10% of the payout from the Chinese energy firm CEFC.
President Joe Biden has denied having business ties to foreign governments.
Devine also reports that Bobulinski gave the FBI the contents of three cellphones containing encrypted messages between Hunter and his business partners. The data includes financial documents reportedly detailing the Biden family’s illicit business dealings when Joe served as vice president.
Bobulinski reportedly told FBI agents about improper Biden family deals with CEFC, a Beijing-controlled energy business with ties to Russia, Oman, Romania, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
After Bobulinski’s five-hour interview with the FBI, he never heard from the FBI and was never brought in to testify before a Delaware grand jury investigating Hunter Biden.
A lawyer for Thibault stated that Thibault “did not supervise the investigation of Hunter Biden,” adding, “Mr. Thibault was not involved in any decisions related to any laptop that may be at issue in that investigation and he did not seek to close the investigation.”
