Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) predicts a tsunami of public anger will pummel Democrats from national office in the midterm election.
A report in the Daily Wire includes interview remarks the Texas senator made predicting a groundswell of opposition to Democrats. He pointed to indications like the chants cursing out the president that are regularly reported at sporting events. Chants of “F*#! Joe Biden” do not bode well for Democrats, he believes.
“I think 2022 is going to be a bloodbath for Democrats,” Cruz said. “It’s not just going to be a wave, it’s going to be a tsunami. I believe Republicans are going to win the House and we’re going to win the Senate.”
“And I think it will be on the order of magnitude of 1994 or 2010.” The 1994 Contract with America proposed by then-Senator Newt Gingrich, a Georgia Republican, helped fuel a Tea Party political revolution where Republicans regained control of the senate for the first time in more than 40 years. They came with a few seats of controlling the House of Representatives, also. The 2020 election results were better than expected for House Republican candidates but the party did not end up controlling either legislative house that year.
The Texas senator reportedly pointed to the Democrats handling of issues important to voters. He noted President Joe Biden’s handling of surging numbers of illegal aliens crossing the Southern border, handling of the pandemic and the skyrocketing inflation rates affecting consumers. At one point during the interview, Cruz said, “Biden’s administration in just a year is already worse than Jimmy Carter.”
That seems a bold statement considering President Jimmy Carter pushed treaties through Congress that gave away perpetual rights to the Panama Canal, along with his handling of the Iran hostage situation.
An email request for comment from the senator was not immediately returned.
The report further noted Cruz reminded readers about many Democrat politicians who mandated mask policies, then were publicly outed for not obeying their own policy. California Governor Gavin Newsom faced a recall election in 2021 that was largely fueled by anger at his pandemic policies after photos of him unmasked at an expensive restaurant surfaced. Former President Barack Obama, N.Y. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, N.Y. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser have all had photos surface showing them flouting the same mask policy they mandate for their constituents.
