In another story illustrating the rising tide of violence in America, WPXI-TV was the first to report that a councilwoman from the Pittsburgh suburb of Bellevue was arrested on aggravated assault and resisting arrest charges.
According to the report, police charge that councilwoman Sabreena Miller hit a police officer in the back of the head during an investigation regarding a stabbing at her home.
WPXI reports that officers were called to Miller’s home at 3:47 a.m. Saturday to investigate a report that a man had stabbed himself.
Officers report they found John Miller standing in the doorway with a towel wrapped around a wound on his right leg.
In looking about the house, one of the two investigating officers entered the Millers’ kitchen and found two knives and puddles of blood on the floor.
As the officer began to question councilwoman Sabreena Miller about the incident, she reportedly became hostile and ordered the officers to “get out of her house.”
When the councilwoman demanded to know “why he was there,” the officer replied that he had been called to the home and that her husband was bleeding from a stab wound.
The response seemed to infuriate Miller who began to scream, push and hit the officer, exclaiming, “he had no right to be there.”
WTAE-TV reported that Sabreena Miller resisted arrest and allegedly punched the officer in the back of the head.
The arresting officer reported that he smelled alcohol on Sebreena Miller’s breath. A criminal complaint notes that Sebreena struggled with both officers before she was handcuffed and arrested.
The Blazemedia reports that Sabreena Miller is being held at Allegheny County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
WPXI added that, as scratches were found on Sebreena’s neck, John Miller is facing assault charges.
Blazemedia also reported that Kathy Coder, a former colleague of the councilwoman, shared the following statement with WTAE:
“I am saddened to hear about Sabreena’s behavior and the altercation. Sabreena is a talented young woman who has been highly engaged in the community and has made many positive contributions to Bellevue. Hopefully, she and John will use this as a learning experience and will seek help, as needed, so these types of issues will not plague them and impede their bright future. Many people believe in them and will always be there to support them.”
