A rapper whose stage name was Takeoff, 28, was killed early Tuesday morning after an altercation outside a Houston bowling alley. On Wednesday afternoon, a coroner released the cause of death.
A Harris County medical examiner’s report notes Takeoff’s cause of death as multiple “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into his arm.”
The New York Post reported “Takeoff was gunned down Tuesday morning following an argument that occurred as he was leaving a Houston bowling alley.”
Video posted after the shooting shows Takeoff’s uncle and fellow Migos rapper Quavo arguing outside the bowling alley and the chaos that followed the shooting.
The Post noted, “It is believed that [Takeoff] was not directly involved in the altercation.” Others have said Takeoff was struck by stray bullets.
Police are investigating the shooting and have asked the public to share information that would help solve the crime.
Mayor Sylvester Turner said: “I’m asking for any of the persons who were at this private party … that have information on the shooter or shooters please provide that information to HPD and let us solve it. We will solve this particular case.”
One of Takeoff’s representatives wrote: “Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated.”
Entertainer Ric Flair posted: “Rest in Peace.”
According to Page Six, Police Chief Troy Finner indicated that the two primary suspects may have been guests of the rapper’s private gathering.
