Conservatives on Twitter ripped California Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell after he claimed Republicans were going to ban interracial marriage in response to the recent leaked Supreme Court opinion indicating that the Court was poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“The Republicans won’t stop with banning abortion,” Swalwell tweeted early Tuesday morning. “They want to ban interracial marriage. Do you want to save that? Well, then you should probably vote.” Swalwell included in his tweet a link to the site iwillvote.com, the Democratic National Committee’s voter registration and information website.
Conservatives blasted Swalwell, pointing out that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is in an interracial marriage with his wife, Ginni, while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is also in an interracial marriage with former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, among others. Many users pointed out their own interracial families, as well as Swalwell’s past history of dating an alleged Chinese spy. Notable responses included:

Ximena Barreto, External Affairs Director for Senator Rand Paul: “As a mom of a mixed child, this is the reason the GOP is gaining minority support, Eric. Per a wsj poll. By 9% points, Hispanics said they would vote GOP. Democratic margins deteriorated among Blacks, who favored a Democrat for Congress by 35 points, down from 56 points last yr.”
Wesley Hunt, Republican Congressional candidate, Texas-38: “Hi Eric, my name is Wesley Hunt, I’m a Republican nominee in a Congressional District that is 70% white. I’m black, I’m in an interracial marriage, and my wife and I have two biracial daughters. Republicans are celebrating diversity while white liberals like yourself race-bait.”
Vernon Jones, Republican Congressional Candidate, Georgia-10: “Eric, the only folks who historically sought to ban interracial marriages are Democrats – when they weren’t burning down black churches and sending my parents to the back of bus. YOUR party founded the KKK. Not us.”
