On Monday, former First Lady Melania Trump issued a statement in response to news that her former chief of staff Stephanie Grisham would be publishing a tell-all book revealing “surprising new scandals.”
Melania’s remarks: After news broke last week that Grisham had been secretly writing a memoir for 4 years and intended to publish a bombshell book entitled, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in The Trump White House,” Melania Trump went on the offensive against her former chief of staff and issued a statement.
“The intent behind this book is obvious,” read the statement provided by the office of Mrs. Trump. “It is an attempt to redeem herself after a poor performance as press secretary, failed personal relationships, and unprofessional behavior in the White House.”
“Through mistruth and betrayal, she seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump,” her office added in the statement.
How we got here: Grisham served as the White House press secretary and communications director for former President Donald Trump, as well as chief of staff for Mrs. Trump, making her the only person to have served as top aid to both of them.
On January 6, 2021, Grisham was serving as Mrs. Trump’s chief of staff when the riots broke out at the Capitol Building.
According to excerpts from her upcoming book obtained by POLITICO, Grisham texted the First Lady on January 6, “Do you want to tweet that peaceful protests are the right of every American, but there is no place for lawlessness and violence?”
A minute later, she says Mrs. Trump responded, simply, “No.”
Grisham resigned later that night.
On January 11, five days after the riots at the Capitol Building, Mrs. Trump released a statement.
“Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our Nation’s Capitol,” she wrote. “Violence is never acceptable.”
Worth noting: The Daily Wire reported that Grisham is set to expose a number of “surprising new scandals.”
“There isn’t enough water on earth to contain the fire she could set to all of Trump world, including parts like the first lady’s orbit, which not many people are in a position to illuminate,” one of Grisham’s White House colleagues told Axios.
Grisham’s book will be released for sale on October 5.
