Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declined an offer to appear on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” after he accused Fox News and host Tucker Carlson of promoting racist conspiracy theories.
Schumer said in a social media post Tuesday that he had received an invitation to defend his accusations in an appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” the top-rated cable news show that routinely draws more than 3 million viewers every episode. The Senate Democrat said he is declining the offer and accused the host of promoting “Replacement Theory.”
“@TuckerCarlson invited me on his show tonight to debate the letter I sent to @FoxNews,” Schumer said. “I’m declining. Tucker Carlson needs to stop promoting the racist, dangerous ‘Replacement Theory.’”
Schumer sent a letter to Fox News executives and Carlson on Tuesday morning demanding that they put an immediate stop to promoting “Replacement Theory” on the network. Schumer’s letter came after a gunman killed 10 people in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, in an allegedly racially motivated attack. A manifesto believed to be written by the killer cites “Replacement Theory,” which the gunman describes as a scheme orchestrated by elite Jewish leaders to dilute the white population in the U.S. by taking in minority immigrants.
“For years, these types of beliefs have existed at the fringes of American life,” Schumer wrote. “However, this pernicious theory, which has no basis in fact, has been injected into the mainstream thanks in large part to a dangerous level of amplification by your network and its anchors.”
