President Joe Biden (D) said during an interview on Sunday that the pandemic was “over,”
On social media, #CovidIsNotOver began trending, with liberals reminding the president that there are reportedly about 400 Americans who continue to die each day from the virus.
Biden made the remarks during an interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” with host Scott Pelley.
“Mr. President, first Detroit Auto Show in three years. Is the pandemic over?” Pelley asked while the two attended the auto show.
“The pandemic is over,” Biden claimed. “We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. It’s– but the pandemic is over. if you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think this is a perfect example of it.”
Politico reported that Biden’s remarks were not part of his “planned remarks,” and that his remarks “caught several of his own health officials by surprise.”
“The impact on the psyche of the American people as a consequence of the pandemic is profound,” he said. “Think of how that has changed everything. You know, people’s attitudes about themselves, their families, about the state of the nation, about the state of their communities. And so there’s a lot of uncertainty out there, a great deal of uncertainty. And we lost a million people.”
Conservatives, meanwhile, pointed out there is no justification for any Covid restrictions to be in place anymore or any vaccine or mask mandates to remain.
