A 97-year-old Holocaust survivor was on the receiving end of hate messages on social media after wishing people a peaceful Sabbath.
The story: Lily Ebert, a native of Bonyhád, Hungary, survived the Auschwitz Nazi death camp, where she was deported in 1944, and the death marches. Her mother, brother, and sister were all killed in the Holocaust.
The 97-year-old now has a TikTok account where she answers questions about the Holocaust.
Earlier this month, Ebert posted a video she filmed from her home in London on the platform in which she wished her followers a good Sabbath.

In response to the clip, social media users flooded her account with vile messages.
Some of the replies include: “Ask her if she thinks the treatement of Palestinians reminds her [of] the treatment she got in the camp” and “Can u ask her did Israel exist when she [moved] out of Germany?”
Others praised Hitler and wished Ebert a “Happy Holocaust.”
“peace be upon Hitler,” one user wrote.
“you still alive[?]” another commented, alongside several laughing emojis.
“Hail Hilter,” wrote a third user, according to a screenshot.
Some pointed to the recent violent conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
“And now look what Jews in Palestine,” a user wrote in the comment section.
Ebert does not engage in politics, according to the Campaign Against Antisemitism, nor has she mentioned Israel.
Her grandson said they have received “messages of hate” for days.
“Over the past few days my great Grandmother and I have continued to receive messages of hate on Tiktok and Twitter,” Ebert’s grandson, Dov Forman, 17, tweeted on May 16. “We will not allow this to stop us from educating about the horrors of the past, and what hatred can lead to. Hate only breeds hate.”
Worth noting: Earlier this year, the 97-year-old Ebert recovered from a coronavirus infection.
