InfoWars host Alex Jones is reportedly willing to spill his guts out if the U.S. Justice Department grants him immunity.
A lawyer for Jones said he has given the government a formal letter expressing “his desire to speak to federal prosecutors about January 6.”
Jones is negotiating with the Justice Department about an agreement to talk about his rally near the White House Jan. 6, 2021, that occurred before the Capitol riot later that day.
Attorney Norm Pattis reportedly insisted Jones had not engaged in criminal wrongdoing when he led a crowd of Trump supporters in a march to the Capitol that day. Pattis said Jones requested immunity from prosecution in exchange for agreeing to be interviewed by investigators, the report noted.
“He distrusts the government,” Mr. Pattis said.
The news from Pattis follows revelations two weeks ago that “Stop the Steal” organizer Ali Alexander was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury conducting a broad inquiry. Alexander reported the empaneled jury is looking at rally planners, congressional members and confidants of former President Donald Trump.
Alexander said in a statement at the time that the federal grand jury is seeking information linked to Washington, D.C., rallies conducted by Trump supporters. Alexander said he intends to comply with the subpoena.
“I don’t believe I have information that will be useful to them but I’m cooperating as best I can further reiterating that I’m not a target because I did nothing wrong,” said Alexander, according to the NBC News report.
Another sign of enhanced efforts to find charges that reach to Trump is the addition of Maryland career federal prosecutor Thomas Windom to the expanded January 6 investigation, the Times report noted.
Windom is reportedly investigating more politically difficult questions about whether a case can be made about other efforts to overturn the election. If so, that could shift the investigation to focus on Trump and his inner circle. Investigators may examine issues such as Trump allies trying to get seven swing states to certify Trump won and mail those statements to the National Archives and Congress.
Trump supporters fear the ultimate goal of investigators is finding a felony to convict Trump of because that would make him ineligible to run for reelection in 2024.
