Actress and activist Alyssa Milano said this week that she is might launch a congressional bid in 2024, eyeing a House seat that represents part of California.
The story: Milano told The Hill that she is considering running against Republican Rep. Tom McClintock in 2024, who has been representing California’s 4th congressional district in the House since 2009.
“I split my time between Truckee, Calif., and Bell Canyon, Calif., and the Republicans have basically had a strong arm there in the 4th District,” she said. “I would love to maybe consider flipping that seat blue.”
“It’s going to take someone with, I think, name recognition and deep pockets to be able to run against McClintock, and so I’m considering it. I’m basically gathering information right now, speaking to different consultants, speaking to the community,” Milano explained.
“Before I run, obviously I can’t do both at the same time,” she added, referring to her career as an actress. “So it’s just really going to be about timing.”
Milano also told Deadline in a separate statement: “I am confirming that it is possible that I will run for office in 2024.”
McClintock’s response: “We welcome a little celebrity, such as it is, to accentuate the issues facing our country. Her record of taking extreme leftist positions over the years will create a target rich environment,” a spokesperson for the congressman’s campaign, Chris Baker, told the Daily Caller.
Not a first: Last month, Milano sent out a tweet in which she suggested that she is thinking about a run against McClintock.
“Congressman McClintock was one of the 63 republicans to oppose Asian Hate Crimes bill,” Milano wrote on May 20. “This is my Congressman. Should I run against him?”
Milano also weighed in on other celebrities who are considering entering the world of politics, such as Caitlyn Jenner, who is running for governor of California, actor Matthew McConaughey, who said he is thinking about challenging Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).
“I would hope that they would put in the work before they attempt to hold office,” Milano said.
“I’ve been an activist since I was 15 years old. The first pictures of me in the White House are with Nancy Reagan. I’ve been at this a really long time.”
“I’m very hands-on, boots on the ground, as far as the work that I do. And I would hope that anyone who’s considering running for office would be doing so from a place of service, which is where my heart is, rather than a place of power or to change up the system,” she said. “My intentions are to make the world a better place.”
