U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado, D-N.Y., makes it 33 — almost three dozen incumbent Democrats stepping down and not running again in the 2022 midterms. The number is a devastating indictment on Nancy Pelosi’s leadership and President Biden’s governance.
The Patriot Journal summarized the mass exodus with this headline: “Democrats Are Jumping Off Biden’s Sinking Ship – Joe’s Latest Poll Has His Own Party Trying To Escape.”
The Patriot Journal also predicts a massive “red wave” in November, noting that the GOP WinRed platform “raked in $170 million” last weekend.
Noteworthy is that according to FiveThirtyEight, Delgado (as of March 9) voted with President Joe Biden 100 percent of the time during the 117th Congress.
Delgado will now pursue the position of lieutenant governor of New York, supporting Hochul, who replaced disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in August 2021.
Hochul announced her intent to move Delgado to the lieutenant governor position on Twitter:
“I am proud to announce I am appointing Congressman Antonio Delgado, an outstanding leader and public servant, as Lieutenant Governor of New York. I look forward to working with him to usher in a new era of fairness, equity, and prosperity for communities across the State. With Antonio Delgado by my side serving as Lieutenant Governor, we will both make history—and make a difference.”
Hochul noted that Delgado would be an asset to moving forward Democratic initiatives across the state:
“Having won competitive primary and general elections for Congress, Representative Antonio Delgado is a battle-tested campaigner who has the experience to serve New Yorkers and the work ethic to get our party’s message out to voters, unite communities and lift up Democratic candidates statewide.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) — a key GOP election fundraising firm — released a statement noting the mass exodus of Democratic members of the House of Representatives. An excerpt reads:
“Antonio Delgado is the most recent House Democrat to call it quits. Delgado is seeking the fastest exit from his doomed reelection bid to join Gov. Kathy Hochul’s corrupt administration.”
According to the Epoch Times, Samantha Bullock, spokeswoman for the NRCC, added, “Antonio Delgado was smart and got a jump on the job market before he and the rest of his House Democrat colleagues lose this fall.”
Many believe that Nancy Pelosi’s House will fall this fall.
