An 18-year-old Arkansas high school student who appeared perfectly healthy died suddenly Sunday of a pulmonary embolism, according to family.
Victoria Moody’s older sister, Brooke McCarty, described her late sister as perfectly healthy until Sunday evening. McCarty explained Moody complained she was not feeling well Sunday, so her father drove her to the hospital for treatment, according to a KARK report.
“She apparently had a pulmonary embolism that was just too far advanced to stop it,” McCarty said about her sister, Victoria, who died less than two hours after being admitted to the hospital. Moody was a senior at North Little Rock High School where she was a senior member of the cheerleading and competition team.
Cheerleading was Moody’s entire world and she loved her teammates, coaches and the sport, her sister informed KARK.
“I just wish more than anything that she would be here, and I just don’t really understand how it happened, or why it happened,” said McCarty.
“She was absolutely the best human being I knew. and I’m forever grateful for the 18 years that I got to be with her,” said McCarty. “She was going to go to University of Arkansas or Mississippi State; she had gotten scholarships, and she got invited into the honors program.”
A celebration of her life was conducted Friday, at Christ Church in Alexander, Arkansas, followed by a burial ceremony limited to family, according to her obituary.
Moody’s friends, Abrielle Crump, Emma Dill, Caroline Jolly and Anna Bagget were her designated pall bearers.
The teenager is survived by her parents, Brian Moody and Christy Leanne Ausbrooks; a sister, Brooke McCarty; a brother, Arin Shane Bradshaw; grandparents Jerry and Sherlene Moody; a nephew and niece, Maverick Curt McCarty and Holland Jaymes McCarty; uncle and aunt, Jerry and Debbie Moody; and cousins, Dylan and Andrea Moody and Justin and Brittany Moody.
“Victoria’s smile and sass lit up every room she walked into, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her,” her family said in her obituary.
